We’re Engaged!

This is the story of how Kyle proposed to me.

It was February 2019, when we had the biggest snow storm in the Seattle are, like ever. We had plans to go look at an apartment complex together because we knew that our future was going to be together, so we were making plans. We had scheduled a tour on February 9th, but as the day was getting closer the snow was getting worse and then we find out the leasing office at the apartment had closed for the weekend so our tour had to be canceled.

Personally I didn’t see how this was a big deal because we could just reschedule the tour, but Kyle was devastated. I didn’t get it, but then I didn’t always understand him anyway!

So I just told him, I’m going to be home all day. You can come over if you can get here and we can just hang out. He was THRILLED by the idea so we went with it!

Now I have to give some background info that I didn’t realize was important until afterward and my sisters made me aware.

It had been snowing for about a week at this point and everything was closed. My sisters were home from school, I was home from work and we had all been living in pajamas and snow clothes with no makeup. My sisters were trying to scheme up a way to get me to actually get ready and put makeup on, so they came up with this brilliant idea: a PHOTOSHOOT!

Now, I’m always down to get my photo taken, especially when it’s pretty and snowy outside so I fell for it completely. I showered, did my hair and makeup, even wore fake eyelashes! I was going all out!

So now Kyle finally shows up to my house and I’m all dolled up and he says “let’s go for a walk in the snow!” I’m like oh yeah for sure that’s so fun and so romantic so I’m down for it! So we go walk on this trail close to where my parents live and its a pretty steep hill and we are both a little exhausted about half way through so he suggests we take a break and catch our breathe. So we slow down a bit so we can breathe while hiking up this hill!

We finally get closer to the top and look back at the view seeing how far we came, and it is just breathe taking. Its about 5 o’clock at this point so the sun is starting to set and there is snow everywhere. Truly beautiful. Then Kyle does something funny. He says, rather loud, “Wow. What a beautiful view!” I don’t think much of it cause he’s a goofy guy, but then he does it again.

We go a little further to the top of the hill and there is a little maintenance shed there. All of a sudden I see a friend come out from behind it playing guitar, and another friend come out with a camera. I immediately looked at Kyle and asked him what he was doing. I had butterflies in my stomach. He looked at me and said, you know what I’m doing.

I was balling at this point. I am the biggest cry baby you will ever meet. I was crying so hard, and Kyle starts singing. He sings a version of marry you by bruno mars and changed the words to make it fit us a little more and sings the whole song. My emotions are everywhere. I’m crying one minute, and laughing another. It was the most beautiful moment ever. Mostly, because I didn’t even know he could sing! He had been taking voice lessons to surprise me! Well, it surprised me and I was so happy about it!

After he sang the song he got down on one knee and said, “Talia Morgan Smith, these last two years with you have been the best of my life and I don’t want it to end. Will you marry me?”

Of course before he even finished asking the question I was saying yes! I don’t even remember if he said anything else I was just so excited! It was the most perfect and magical moment of my life!

It was so fun because after we went back to my parents house and there were so many friends and family there to celebrate with us. It was such a perfect day, and I would relive it all over again if I could.
